Pair of small, quadrangular planters in blue and brown glazed ceramic. Each corner is carefully crafted to imitate wooden posts, while the blue plaques are decorated with relief appliqué butterflies. The small size of these planters suggests they are likely miniatures designed to showcase the ceramicist's craftsmanship.

Thomas Sergent (1830-1890), attached to the Parisian school of followers of Bernard Palissy, follows in the footsteps of artisans such as G.-J. Avisseau in Tours or G. Pull in Paris, thus perpetuating the tradition of Palissy ceramics.
Works by Thomas Sergent, including planters, are preserved at the Château de Blois museum.

 Circa 1880.
