Carved wooden nutcracker depicting a bear. Characteristic of Black Forest production, this art of wood carving experienced a remarkable boom with the development of tourism in the Victorian era. The Swiss villages of Brienz, Interlaken, and Lucerne were home to the most renowned carvers at the time.
