A small ring stand in silver-plated metal and patinated bronze, featuring a parrot perched on its base. Comprising two cups, several jewellery-holding branches and a small dish at the base, this display stand was used to hold rings, signet rings, brooches or small pieces of jewellery. Ring stands adorned with a parrot became particularly popular in the 19th century, serving as dressing table and boudoir accessories until the early 20th century. The parrot, a symbol of exoticism and travel, became a much-loved decorative motif, evoking the collections of rare birds that adorned bourgeois interiors at the time.
